The worlds only 2+2 Mid engined Sports Car in Production
The new Evora will take its place above the Elise and Exige S, Lotus hope that the new sports car will provide increased day-to-day usability. The new Evora will be larger than the Elise and Exige and will come with more creature comforts.
The Lotus Evora, the all new sportscar from one of the leading global car marques has won a prestigious award at the European Aluminium Awards 2008. The aluminium structure of the Lotus Evora, the world’s only mid-engined 2+2 was triumphant, capturing the Overall Jury Prize, celebrating the technological advancements of the Lotus aluminium vehicle architecture.
In what is the first award to be bestowed on the visually stunning Lotus Evora, even before production is underway, the award, only presented when special recognition is warranted, recognises the latest developments of this low volume version of the Lotus vehicle architecture technology. The European Aluminium Award is the leading international prize of the aluminium industry and was presented to Lotus at the prestigious International World Trade Fair ‘Aluminium 2008’ at Messe Essen in Germany on Tuesday 23rd September.
With Order books now well and truly open, the Evora in case you didn’t know is the physical manifestation of what to now has been carrying the cloak-and-dagger ‘Project Eagle’ name, so as to keep rivals and duplicitous motoring hacks at bay.
As is gospel for Lotus, weight is key. Or rather lack of poundage. Therefore an all-aluminium body it is then, plus a rear spoiler and splitter so the Evora maintains its allegiance to the asphalt at all times.
The new Evora will be hand crafted and built on a new production line at Hethel, where 2,000 units per year is the targeted output.
The leather-upholstered cabin is finished for comfort as well as sporting ambience, with Lotus claiming that the car is fitted out with ‘premium quality material’ and soft-touch surfaces. It has aluminium trim and air conditioning, The rear seats have Isofix child seat mounting points and other safety features include traction and stability control.
And should you not need those extra seats, a two-seat layout can be ordered with a luggage shelf instead. Lotus says the boot has enough space for a golf bag.
